Ranchi - Jharkhand

Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand, and now it is the most populous city of the state. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas.

Places to visit:

The Ranchi Lake is situated 2140 feet above sea level and was discovered in 1842 by British adventurer Colonel Onsely. Its neat and calm environs attracts a lot of birds to perch over the lake.

The Birsa Zoological Park is known for its rich variety of flora and fauna. A visit to this zoo will make you come across lions, tigers and a large variety of deers and monkeys. The best time to visit Ranchi is between November and February.


Dassam Falls: Dassam falls is 34 km from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata Road near a village called Taimara. Here, the Kachni river falls from an altitude of 144 ft (44 m). It is also known as Dassam Gagh.

Jonha Falls: Jonha Falls is also known as Gautamdhara, is around 40 km from Ranchi. It is approachable by both Road and train. The fall can be admired by descending around 500 steps.
